About Maasai Mara National Reserve

Maasai Mara National Reserve is Kenya’s most recognised safari destination, known for its expansive grasslands, exceptional wildlife and the annual Great Migration. From around July to October, vast herds of wildebeest and zebra move through the Mara ecosystem, creating one of Africa’s most famous wildlife spectacles.

Travelers can expect open savannah, rolling hills, acacia trees and the Mara River, alongside frequent sightings of lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo, giraffes and large herds of plains game. Birdlife is also abundant, with more than 450 species recorded in the wider ecosystem.

The Mara suits first-time safari travellers, photographers, families, couples and experienced wildlife enthusiasts. Its combination of big-cat viewing, large herbivore herds and migration activity gives it a different character from Kenya’s more arid parks, while its connection with the wider Serengeti ecosystem makes it an important part of the East African safari circuit.
